Harbour House X skinflint Pub Perfection Collaboration

When you think about Harbour House, Flushing, you think of its stunning location, great food, local draught beer and of course its idyllic interior design. The Harbour House team have worked tirelessly to collaborate with local suppliers from the outset, whether that be for the food we serve on our Harbour House embossed plates, to the fixtures and fittings that surround you as you dine.

Earlier in the year we were approached by vintage lighting company skinflint to join them in a September collaboration, highlighting the best of local design and vision. skinflint, established in 2009, started by salvaging vintage lights from electrical locations across the UK and Europe. Sourcing lights from old warehouses and alike, they take beautiful lighting designs and give them new life to make them the centrepiece of your modern-day project. Having seen an array of skinflint’s lamps, Tamara and William knew they had to use a selection of the range to light all the cosy areas of the pub. As you can see in the pictures, they fit right at home, giving old lights the chance of a new life.

“Along with other renovation focuses, such as taking out a number of obstructive walls, majorly opening up the space, we stripped back and exposed original features such as wooden beams, fireplaces, paint and plasterwork and, hiding under a dreadful old carpet, beautiful original floor tiles.

Alongside the new textural surfaces of raw and painted brickwork and stunning original stonework, the team added new windows in place of the painted shut ones. We also brought the kitchen out from the back area and made it an open area, so the chef’s craft can be seen and enjoyed by diners.

We worked with a local boat builder/joiner to design and craft a bespoke oak bar, as well as eight hand-crafted outside tables where you can sit and watch the boats pass by.” – Tamara Costin
